April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎ April Fools ︎

April Fools is an album by indie-pop artist The Scary Jokes. I designed and illustrated an event poster and album sleeve based on my personal interpretation of the album.

The concept is centered around the juxtaposition of The Scary Jokes' sugary-sweet synth-pop sound with lyrics that tell the story of misplaced optimism in a damaging and tumultuous relationship.

Cover Art

Vector art created in Adobe Illustrator, utilizing parody to illustrate the album's themes in a way that felt playful and tongue-in-cheek. Grunge textures and noise were added to the vector art to show the album's darker lyrical themes, balancing out the bright, sickly-sweet color palette.

Gig Poster

The poster expands on the cigarette imagery from the album art, seeing it in context. Because I was working with vectors, I wanted to play with bold, clean forms. I saw the cigarette smoke and clouds as a great opportunity to play with shape!

Summer Festival ︎ Summer Festival ︎ Summer Festival ︎ Summer Festival ︎ Summer Festival ︎ Summer Festival ︎

A vinyl record sleeve inspired by Biosphere's instrumental album Summer Festival. The main challenge was to visually represent the music without any lyrical references, translating my interpretation into a visual system.

Biosphere's songs feature nature sounds such as babbling brooks and songbirds, and are based around a theme of innocent, nostalgic romance. I hoped to convey this through blooming floral illustrations and a romantic love letter/postal motif ︎
